Outreach For Schools

NWCT’s educational outreach programs are custom designed to meet the needs of individual students, educators and schools. From supporting literacy to school community-building, NWCT’s innovative outreach programming meets ODE Arts Benchmarks, making NWCT an effective and affordable use of classroom arts dollars. 

NWCT is an accredited arts organization with Young Audiences/Run for the Arts, and is a proud partner program of the Right-Brain Initiative. Classroom Residencies

Enhance learning from a unique perspective! Using improvisation, movement, acting and music, NWCT teachers help students develop a performance centered on curriculum workshops designed by the classroom teacher and NWCT. Residencies meet ODE Arts Benchmarks. Here are some sample Classroom Residency titles:
 
From Page to Stage
Grades 2-12
From monologues and scenes to fully developed plays, students draw upon personal experience and curriculum content to write their own performance pieces. Students engage in the creative process while developing literacy skills.

Storybook Theater
Grades K-8
Use your classroom’s favorite storybook for theater exploration as students experience literature from the inside out.

Playlab Production

Choose a title from NWCT’s catalog of plays, and watch your students act and sing to create a 30-45 minute play. We provide your students with an experienced staff-director, musical director, choreographer, and stage crew as well as sets, costumes and props. This program is an event for students, parents, and the entire school.  Here are some sample Playlab titles:
 
Shakespeare-ience!
Grades 2-12
NWCT instructors help you choose a title from Shakespeare’s canon of work and adapt it to suit your students’ needs. From the “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to “Romeo and Juliet,” students revel in The Bard’s language, characters and themes.
Grades 2-12 — Length: 36 hrs. rehearsal, 4 hrs. performance

It’s All Greek to Me!
Grades 4-8
Humor and mythology are woven together in this lively farce! With a flexible cast size, this comedic show will work for any school! Students have so much fun, they forget they are learning! Available with or without music.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Grades 6-12
Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic psychological study of man’s duality will be an exciting theater experience for your students. The story, set in Victorian England, has been adapted to be accessible to young actors. Available with or without music.

After School Skills Classes

Acting ABCs
Grades K-2
Start at the very beginning and learn about the world of theater. Act, sing, create characters, and much more!
Grades K-2
Cost: $80/hour
 
Creative Drama
Grades 2-12
Students use basic theater skills and improvisation games to create an original performance piece. Students learn flexibility, team work, spontaneity and voice/body control.
Grades 2-12

Broadway Basics
Grades 3-8
This enchanting class brings the wonder of musical theater to your school. Students learn music and dance numbers from famous Broadway shows to create an original musical review.
Grades 3-5: Section I
Grades 6-8: Section II
