What should I prepare for an audition at NWCT?
The audition is two parts:
- A memorized monologue between 30 seconds and 1 minute long
- One song 16-32 bars long, musical theater style preferred
Where do I find audition materials or help?
- The local library is your best source for audition materials
- The internet is also an excellent source
- NWCT prefers monologues selected from a play rather than from a book of monologues
- Choose a drama or comedy to show off your best abilities
- Audition classes are available through NWCT each Spring Term
- Private coaching sessions are available Spring Term by appointment
Who will be watching my audition?
- Sarah Jane Hardy, NWCT Artistic Director
- Carolyn Newsom, NWCT Education Director, attends and provides piano accompaniment
- Various NWCT program directors (Kids Co NW, KidsPro NW, Interns NW, Teens NW)
- Guest directors and music directors are invited
- Parents, siblings, and friends are not invited to watch the auditions
What do I need to bring to the audition?
- Completed Season Audition Form (found in the Season Audition Packet)
- Industry headshots are accepted. NWCT requires a current photo of any size or color, preferably of your face. A school photo is sufficient.
- A Resume or completed Experience Form (available in the Season Audition Packet)
- Sheet music is strongly encouraged. Failing that, you may bring recorded accompaniment music on CD or sing a cappella.
What and when are callbacks?
- Within two weeks following General Season Auditions you will be notified which shows or programs you are
called back for. Occasionally, a director will call you back for something you did not select on your form.
- NWCT holds callbacks throughout the season. If you are called back for any show or program you will be
notified again closer to the actual date with details for preparation and the opportunity to attend or decline.
- If your contact information changes be sure to update auditions@nwcts.org with your new information.
How will I know if I’m cast in a show, performing troupe or training program?
- During the callbacks or following the final callback round you will be notified either in person or
by telephone, whether or not you are offered a role
